Elavil or the generic amitriptyline is the best formulation for the treatment of depression. Its main component is amitriptyline that belongs to the class of tricyclic antidepressants and acts by enhancing the level of serotonin in the brain that is required to maintain the mental balance. This medicine is not safe to be used in case of children below the age of 18 years.
