Desvenlafaxine is the main component of Pristiq and belongs to the class of serotonin- norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It benefits to refurbish the balance of norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain. Pristiq also help to relieve the problems of nerve pain, panic attack, and anxiety. It can be used to cure hot flashes that occur due to menopause.
How should you use Pristiq?
The recommended dose of Pristiq is 50mg that has to be taken once in a day. You can have this tablet with a glass of water by swallowing and can be before food or after food. Don’t increase or decrease the dose by yourself, discuss it with your doctor before making any changes in the dose. The maximum dose per day for Pristiq is 400mg per day; don’t increase than that of it. Take the pill at the same time every day for better results. Do not stop taking the Pristiq tablet even if you start feeling better as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like nausea, dizziness, irritability, headache, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhoea, sweating, and tiredness.
If you miss a dose
In case you forget to take the dose of Pristiq take it as soon as you remember but if you forget till the time for your subsequent dose, hop the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Don’t take the double dose to make up with the missed dose.
If you take too much
In case of overdose, contact nearest doctor. Symptoms of overdose are seizures, drowsiness, irregular heartbeat, severe headache, agitation, vomiting, dizziness, constipation, nausea, dry mouth.
Who should not take Pristiq?
You should not take Pristiq for the treatment in case you are oversensitive to Desvenlafaxine and other ingredients of this medicine.
You should not take Pristiq if you are taking MAO inhibitors or have used is last 2 weeks.
You should not take Pristiq is you are having Linezolid and methylene blue injection.
If the symptoms like mood swing, panic attack, anxiety, sleeping problem, agitation, irritation, impulsive feeling, aggressiveness, hyperactive, restlessness, gets worsen, stop using this medicine.
You should not take Pristiq if you are under the age of 18 years.
What adverse reactions are possible with the Pristiq?
Common effects – anxiety, abnormal dreams, chills, reduced appetite, constipation, weight alteration, nervousness, rashes, diarrhoea, nausea, weakness, lack of concentration, vomiting, urination problem, dizziness, irritability, vision problem, dilated pupil, ringing in the ears, increases sweating, drowsiness, tiredness, hot flushes, sexual disorders, dry mouth, insomnia, headache, change in taste.

List of drugs that interacts with the effect of Pristiq are antipsychotic drugs like haloperidol, antifungal drugs like fluconazole, benzodiazepines like Clonazepam, MAO inhibitors like Phenelzine, NSAID’s like indomethacin, Narcotic pain reliever like codeine, Antihistamine like hydroxyzine, serotonin antagonist like Ondansetron, tricyclic antidepressants like Imipramine, other drugs like axitinib, norepinephrine, cyclobenzaprine, epinephrine, midazolam, pseudoephedrine, phenobarbital. These drugs are not safe to be taken along with Pristiq.
What are the warnings and safety measure?
Be cautious while having Pristiq in case you are having the medical records of Bipolar disorder, liver disorder, kidney impairment, hypertension, cardiac disorder, stroke, high cholesterol, epilepsy, narrow angle glaucoma, blood disorder, low sodium level. Discuss with your health provider about these problems before having this medicine.
