Remeron is an antidepressant drug contains mirtazapine that belongs to a class of anti-depressant Mirtazapine helps to elevate the mood by raising the level of neurotransmitter in the brain nerves. Remeron is also used for the management of posttraumatic stress disorder. It is very effective medicine in the treatment of symptoms of depression like anxiety, behavioural changes, panic attacks, impulsive feeling, sleeping problem, agitation, irritation, restlessness, hostile feeling, aggressiveness, thoughts about suicide, hyperactivity. In the depression condition, some of the chemicals of the brain get imbalanced. Mirtazapine helps on bringing the chemicals in a balanced condition. This medicine helps to balance the chemical in just few weeks.

In the initial phase of medication, chances of suicidal thoughts increase.
In case you have taken MAO inhibitors in last 14 days don’t take this medicine in that period of time as this combination may result into the muscular rigidity, high temperature, agitation, twitching, or coma.
If you feel symptoms like hallucination, agitation, fast heartbeat, sudden change in the blood pressure, elevated temperature of the body, overactive reflexes and coordination problem in that case immediately contact your physician.
Effect of this medicine gets worse in taken along with alcohol.
Who should not take Remeron?
Remeron is not safe for the patients allergic to the Mirtazapine and other tricyclic anti-depressants.
In case of liver disease, kidney disease, low WBC’s count doesn’t use this medicine without prescription.
Remeron is not safe for the children under the age of 18 years.
In case of past history of narrow-angle glaucoma, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, seizures, high cholesterol problem, hypotension, angina, stroke, cardiac attack, or drug abuse discuss it with your doctor before having this medicine.
Use of Remeron in case of pregnancy and breast feeding doesn’t use this medicine without discussing it with physician.
The dose for the treatment of depression is decided according to the patient condition and medical history of the patient. Don’t change, increase or decrease the dose without doctor’s permission. The recommended dose for adults is 15mg once in a day before you go to sleep. After 2 weeks the dose can be increased up to 45mg per day.
How to take?
It’s an oral formulation so take this medicine with a glass of water preferably in the evening before you go to sleep.
If you miss the dose
In case you missed dose take it as soon as you remember but if the time is about the next dose skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Don’t take double dose for the sake of missed dose.
If you take too much
Taking medicine in extra amount can be dangerous and sometimes be fatal. Symptoms of overdose are memory problem, mental confusion, fast heartbeat, drowsiness. Contact nearest doctor in case of overdose.
What should you avoid?
Avoid driving and operating heavy machinery that requires concentration as Remeron can cause drowsiness and confusion.
Avoid alcohol along with the Remeron as it may result into the serious side effects.
Don’t abruptly stop having Remeron as it may result into the unwanted side effects.
Possible drug interactions
Remeron along with other drug can increase, decrease or sometimes alter the required effect. Drugs that affect the use of Remeron are Carbamazepine, Diazepam, alcohol containing products, cimetidine, ketoconazole, erythromycin, lithium, linezolid, MAO inhibitors, Phenelzine, Nefazodone, rifampicin, phenytoin, tramadol, serotonin reuptake inhibitor, St. john’s wort, triptan, warfarin, tryptophan, tranylcypromine, venlafaxine.
Possible adverse reactions
The adverse reaction varies from patient to patient. Side effects of Remeron are abnormal thinking, abnormal dreams, constipation, nausea, drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, confusion, and increased appetite, flu like symptoms, sudden weight gain, weakness, mood swing, mouth sores, and suicidal thoughts. If the adverse effects get worsen take medical help.
