Augmentin is a penicillin antibiotic is a combination of two drugs viz. amoxicillin trihydrate and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin belongs to a class of penicillin antibiotic and helps to fight against the bacteria whereas Clavulanate potassium present in the form clavulanic acid and helps to ill those bacteria that are resistant to penicillin. They act together to kill various kinds of bacteria and treat infection caused by them. It helps to complete eradication of bacterial infection in just 14dyas. It shows its effect by inhibiting the bacterial growth.

For better results it is recommended to take the medicine before having the meal, it also helps to reduce the chances of gastrointestinal infection.

In case the patient has the problem of glandular fever and the atopic allergy, they should not use this medicine.
In case the patient has the problem related to kidney disorder and liver impairment, they should not use this medicine.
In case the patient is under the weight of 40 kg they should take this medicine only after the doctor’s prescription.

Common side effects – diarrhoea, nausea, mucous infection, vomiting, dizziness, headache, digestion problem, itching, mood swing, skin rashes.
Rare side effects- problem in bone marrow, erythema, problematic breathing, and liver related problems, crystals in the urine, blood problems.

Taking other medicine
Some medicine can interact with the effect of each other if taken along with. Drugs that can interact with this medicine are Allopurinol, Acenocoumarol, Methotrexate, Warfarin, Mycophenolate Mofetil, and Probenecid and blood control pills.
Don’t stop the treatment in-between because it can decrease the effectiveness of the medicine.
Don’t use this antibiotic without prescription in case of pregnancy and lactation.
Limit the consumption of alcohol while having this antibiotic as it can worsen the side effects.
