Campral is an alcohol agonist. It works by balancing the unbalance chemicals in the brain that causes the addiction of alcohol. This medication is worth if you are already in the process of quitting alcohol.
This drug is supplied in the form of tablet. The mode of administration is oral. The active ingredient of this drug is Acamprosate calcium. Campral is available at the strength of 333mg.
This medication gets absorbed quickly in the body. That is why it acts in a short period of time. Campral should be stored at room temperature below 30 degree C. Always keep this medication out of the reach of children.
Campral should be prescribed always in onjunction of some supportive therapy like psychotherapy, behavior management and counseling support to stop the addiction.
Indications of Campral:
Campral is used in the patients of alcoholic dependence with a supportive therapy like counseling, psychotherapy or behavioral management.
The recommended dose of Campral is 666mg orally, thrice in a day. The dose can be decreased according to the severity or tolerability of the problem.
Campral should be used as a part of comprehensive psychosocial behavioral treatment programe.
Campral can be taken with or without food.
Side effects of Antabuse:
Users of Campral may have some side effects. The side effects are very rare and occur in fewer people, Some of these are:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Increased, sweating
- Increased heart rate
- Rapid weight gain
Contactl your doctor immediately if have some other symptoms like vision problem, chest pain, shortness of breathing, liver problems, upper stomach pain, and swelling of lips, throat, neck or mouth.
