Celexa is an antidepressant medicine containing Citalopram. Citalopram is classified under the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI’s). It is prescribed for the treatment of depression, obsessive - compulsive disorder (OCD), premenstrual dysphoric syndrome (PMDD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorder. Citalopram shows its effect on the neurotransmitters in the brain that makes the coordination between the nerves. The imbalance in the neurotransmitters results in the depression. Citalopram acts by averting the reuptake of the chemical present in the neurotransmitters known as serotonin. It helps to improve the commotion of the serotonin.
