Allegra contains Fexofenadine a second generation anti histamine medication with selective peripheral H1 receptor antagonist activity for the gastrointestinal tract (GI), large blood vessel and bronchiole smooth muscles. Fexofenadine hydrochloride inhibits antigens induced bronchospasm and histamine release. The inhibition process stops the activation of the H1 receptors by histamines and a helps to avoid the allergic symptoms. The medication does not have sedative effects.
In case of seasonal allergies and Urticaria
The recommended dose of adult and children above 12 years of age is 60 mg twice daily or 180 mg once a day.
Children below two to eleven years of age should receive 30 mg twice daily for seasonal allergies.
Children between six months to two years of age should receive 15 mg twice daily for Urticaria.

There are some medical conditions that may interact with Allegra. So before using Allegra especially any of the following apply to you.
In case you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant and if you are breast feeding.
If the patient is taking prescription or nonprescription medication or any herbal preparation.
If you have allergies to medicines , food or other subjects
If you have kidney problem or trouble urinating.
It is contraindicated in patients with severe hypertension or severe coronary artery disease.
In those who have shown hypersensitivity or idiosyncrasy to Allegra and its components.
Allegra is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma
Some medicines may interact with Fexofenadine.
Aluminum containing antacids for example, Maalox reduces the absorption of Fexofenadine when administered 15 minutes apart. Therefore aluminum containing antacids and Fexofenadine should not be administered together.
Cold or allergy medication is taken as needed, so you should not have a dosing schedule. If you are taking the medication regularly, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. You should not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
In case of overdose call your doctor immediately and seek medical attention. Overdose symptoms may include dry mouth, dizziness, or drowsiness.
The medication should be stored in a cool and dry place. It should be kept below thirty degree Celsius. It should be kept away from children and pets.
