Generic Claritin is an antihistamine drugs that is widely used for reducing the effect of natural histamine of the body. It is used by the patient for treating their seasonal allergies that includes watery eyes, itching of nose & throat, runny nose.
Generic Claritin manufactured all across the globe such as Canada, Mexico, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, etc. It is available in the market under different trade names such as Loretadine, Claritin-D, Clarinase, etc. The medicine should not be given to anyone less than 6 years of age.
Generic Claritin should be stored at room temperature that ranges from 15-30 degree centigrade. It should be protected from light, heat, moisture and dampness. These are some of the physical factors that might affect the usefulness of the medicine leading to altered or delayed result. The medicine should be kept at such a place where pets and kids should not reach. All the medicine should be checked for the expiry date by the patient before its usage.
Claritin tablets contain loratadine as active ingredient and various inactive ingredients that include lactose, starch and magnesium stearate.
Mechanism of action:
Generic Claritin is known to block histamine effect at peripheral H1 receptor site.
Generic Claritin is used to treat allergic reactions such as itching, runny nose, burning eyes, watery eyes, sneezing, etc.
Every person has got different immune system and hence the tolerance capacity for same drug varies if compared to other person. Hence, few users of Claritin might suffer from side effects while other remains unaffected. Some patients get allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat, problem in breathing, hives, etc.
Few users of Claritin might experience uneven heart rate, jaundice, convulsions, etc. In addition to these, patients might get headache, nervousness, tiredness, stomach pain, diarrhoea, dry mouth, blurred vision, and redness in eye, nose bleeding, skin rashes and many more.

This is not the complete list of drug interactions. Some other drugs might also interfere in the action of this medicine and can cause serious side effect. Hence, the patient should always keep a list of all drugs and share the list with the doctor. The dose prescribed by the doctor should not be increased or decreased without consulting to the doctor.
Generic Claritin should be given to individual of age 6 year and above is 10 mg of tablet or 2 teaspoon of syrup once daily.
The recommended dose for individual of age 2 to 5 years is 5 5mg or 1 teaspoon daily.
If the patient misses a dose, they should take it as soon as it is remembered. However, by the time they recall about their missed dose and it’s already time for their next regular scheduled dose, they need to skip the missed dose and take the regular dose as per their planning. The patient should not take extra medicine for making up the missed dose.
Sometimes patients might take overdose of the medicines and start suffering from headache drowsiness and fast heartbeat. In such a case, they should contact to their doctor as early as possible.
Prior taking generic Claritin, the patient should tell to their doctor if they are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
In case, any patient who is taking generic Claritin has medical history of kidney disease, liver disease, they should tell to the doctor before taking it.
This medicine might cause drowsiness to the user of Claritin. So work that requires alertness should be avoided by the patient when they are taking Claritin.
The tablets might contain aspartame. Therefore, if the patient is suffering from phenylketonuria or any such problem where the patient does not have to take aspartame, they must consult to the doctor and should know about how safe this medicine is for them.
Breast-feeding patient should consult to the doctor for using generic Claritin as it might pass to the breast milk and harm to the infant.
