Generic Ocufen is a medicine that belongs to the class of drug known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The medicine is used as an effective eye drop that contains various active as well as inactive ingredients.
Generic Ocufen contain Flurbiprofen sodium 0.03% as active ingredient. The various inactive ingredients present in the medicine are sodium hydroxide, purified water, citric acid, edetate disodium, sodium citrate, polyvinyl alcohol, etc. In addition to this, it also contain thimerosal (0.005%) as preservative.
Generic Ocufen should be stored at its desired temperature. The medicine should be protected from light, heat and dampness. This medicine should be kept away from the reach of children and pets, preferably at a heightened place. The expired medicine or if the medicine is not being used from long time, then it should be discarded properly with the help of local disposal company that is engaged in such work.
Mechanism of action:
Generic Ocufen works by blocking the action of an enzyme, cyclooxygenase. This enzyme is mainly responsible for producing chemical in the body known as prostaglandin. Prostaglandin is produced in the body as a result of injury or certain disease, pain, swelling and inflammation. The medicine is responsible for blocking the production of prostaglandin. Ultimately, pain and inflammation gets reduced.
Generic Ocufen is used for providing relief from pain and swelling of the eye.

How to use:
Wash your hands properly before using the eye drops so as to avoid the chances of contamination.
Tilt the head back
Pull away the lower eyelid in such a way that it forms pouch like structure.
Drop the medicine in that pouch and close the eye gently.
Apply pressure inside the corner of the eye for at least 1-2 minutes. Do not blink.
Remove excess medicine using clean tissue paper.
Wash your hand so that extra medicine can out of your hands.
Soon after, using finger, pressure is applied inside the corner of the eye for 1-2 min and should not blink. The excess medicines are removed around the eye using clean tissue and hands are washed to remove any medicine that might present on it.
The patient should not let the applicator tip to touch to any surface else germs might contaminate the medicines. The medicine should not be administered if the patient is wearing contact lenses.
In case you have missed any of the doses for the medicine, then consult to your doctor.
Avoid overdose of the medicine as it might cause serious problem. In case overdose is suspected, contact your medical advisor as soon as possible.
Before using generic Ocufen, the patient should tell to the doctor in case they are allergic to the medicine or any ingredient of the medicine.
If the patient has medical history of asthma, bleeding or clotting problem, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. then tell the doctor before starting treatment with this medicine.
In case the patient is using any prescribed, non-prescribed medicine or herbal products, then they should tell to the doctor prior using the medicine.
Nursing patient and pregnant patient should consult with doctor for using the medicine. If their doctor has recommended for it then, take the medicine.
