Sumatriptan succinate is an active compound of Suminat which is a triptan analogue. It is a selective serotonin receptor agonist which works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and affects some nerves in the brain to relieve pain. It is a serotonin agonist and works in a similar way to 5-hydroxytryptamine. It controls mood, pain sensation, sexual behaviour, sleep as well as dilation and constriction of blood vessels. It is also used to treat the pain, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. It does not work to prevent migraine attacks from occurring but it should be taken as soon as migraine attack starts.
Uses of Suminat 100 mg:
It is used to treat migraine attacks but does not prevent migraine attacks from occurring. It also controls the other symptoms like mood swing, pain sensation, sexual behaviour, nausea and sensitivity to light.
Suminat 100 mg should not be taken with the drugs:
Suminat may interact with some drugs such as:
MAO inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, methylene blue, linezolid, selegiline and others
Psychoactive drugs such as MDMA, St. John’s wort
Antidepressant drugs such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, duloxetine, venlafaxine and others
Ergotamine such as dihydroergotamine or methysergide
Rizatriptan, zolmitriptan and other triptan medicines
Contraindications for Suminat 100 mg:
This medicine is not recommended to use in the following conditions:
If you allergic to Sumatriptan succinate or have any other allergies, avoid the use of Suminat.
Avoid the use of this medicine if you have any history of circulatory problems, headache, heart problems and liver disease.
Do not take this medicine if you are suffering from seizure and stroke.
Do not Suminat in the conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol level, diabetes, overweight, and if you are a cigarette smoker.
Storage of Suminat 100 mg:
Suminat is to be stored at room temperature below 25 degree C.
Protect this medicine from heat, moisture and direct light.
Store it in a cool and dry place.
Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Dose of Suminat 100 mg:
It is taken at a dose of 100 mg in case of migraine attack with water. There must be gape of at least 2 hours in between two doses of Suminat. Do not take more than 200 mg of Suminat in 24 hours.
In case you missed any dose of Suminat 100 mg:
This is not a drug for regular use. Use it at the time of migraine attack. Do not take a double dose as multiple doses can lead to excess drug in the body which can be dangerous.
Over Dose of Suminat 100 mg:
Consult with your Doctor immediately in case of overdose of Suminat as side effects of Suminat is more severe than that of the other drugs. The symptoms of overdose include diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting.

Do not drive after taking this medicine as it may produce drowsiness.
Avoid the use of alcohol if you are taking this medicine.
Avoid the use of this medicine if you are pregnant.
Use this medicine with caution if you have diseases like high blood pressure and liver disease.
